Valorant is a competitive first-person shooter launched in June 2020. Since then, it has been able to gather a large number of players ranging from professional CS:GO players to players new to the FPS genre.

However, there may be some issues that you may face while playing the game. And one of the issues that we can look into is when your graphics driver crashes while playing Valorant.

If you too are someone whose graphics driver crashed in Valorant, you can keep reading to find the best solutions to fix your problem.

Fixed graphics driver crash in Valorant

There are different methods that you can use to fix the problem you are facing. But before moving on to fixes, it’s better to make sure that the game is using the correct GPU (if your PC/laptop has multiple GPUs).

Additionally, you can also try restarting your PC to omit the possibility of a boot bug. If everything looks normal, you can move on to the fixes listed below.

Update graphics driver

If it’s been a while since you’ve updated your graphics card driver, chances are a newer update is better suited to run the game. You can use the companion app for the graphics card, such as Nvidia’s GeForce Experience app, to update your graphics drivers.

  1. Open search, type Geforce experience and press Enter.
  2. Go to the Drivers tongue.
  3. Hit it Check for updates button.
  4. Wait for the app to find and download the new update.
  5. Hit it Quick setup button.
  6. Restart the PC if prompted when the process is complete.
  7. Run Valorant to check if the problem persists.

Similarly, you can also use Device Manager to update your graphics card drivers.

  1. Right click on the The start menu and select Device Manager.
  2. Expand the Screenshot taken option.
  3. Select the Graphic card you want to update and right-click on it.update-gpu-drivers
  4. Select Update drivers.
  5. In the new window that appears, click Search automatically for drivers.
  6. Follow the prompt and wait for the process to complete completely.

Graphics Driver Update Rollback

If you updated your graphics driver and the game stopped working, it means that the new update was not fully supported by the game. Therefore, you can uninstall the new update by overriding the graphics driver.

  1. press the Windows+R keys on your keyboard to open the Run dialog box.
  2. Type devmgmt.msc and press Enter.
  3. Research and develop Screenshot taken.

  3. Under the System tab, find the version of DirectX.
    Check DirectX Version
  4. If the version is up to date (DirectX 12 from June 2022), skip this method, if not, open search, type Windows Update Settings, and press Enter.
  5. press the Check for updates button.
  6. Hit it Download and install if prompted after Windows finds new updates.
  7. Restart your device if prompted after the process is complete.

Reset your graphics card

You can also uninstall your graphics card and reinstall it so that any bugs present are gone. You can use Device Manager to reset your graphics card.

  1. Open the Device Manager.
  2. Expand the Display adapters section.
  3. Right click on your GPU and select Uninstall device.
  4. Confirm in the warning window.
  5. Restart your PC. Once restarted, your PC will automatically search and install the necessary drivers.

Using windowed mode in Valorant

Playing Valorant fullscreen can be heavy on your GPU, especially if it’s low-end. So, to avoid it, you can simply change the game from fullscreen to windowed mode. Press Alt + Enter on your keyboard to disable full screen.

Disable VSync

If you have V-sync enabled for Valorant, it can not only drop your FPS, but can also make your game quite patchy. To disable it, do the following:

  2. Go to the cog wheel and select Settings.
  3. Head to the Video tab.
  4. Now go to Graphic quality tongue.
    disable v-sync in Valorant
  5. Find and disable V-sync by selecting the stop button.

Disable background apps

If you have graphics heavy applications running in the background, such as Adobe Photoshop, Premiere, or Lightroom, you may get the error that your graphics driver has crashed. So it is best to close all background apps.

  1. Hurry Ctrl + Shift + Esc on your keyboard to open Task Manager.
  2. Select the app you want to close.Task manager closes background apps
  3. Hit it Final task button located at the bottom right.
  4. Repeat the process for other apps you want to close.
  5. Check if the problem persists.

Disable Overclocking

If you overclock your GPU or CPU, chances are your graphics card driver is crashing because of it. You can try disabling overclocking and restoring it to default. Once you’ve done that, restart your PC and try to launch the game.

Reinstall Valorant

If none of the solutions worked, your last move is to reinstall the game.

  1. Open your Control Panel.
  2. Go to Programs.
  3. Open Programs and Features.
  4. Search and select Avant-garde from the list and press the Uninstall button located at the top.
    Uninstall Riot Vanguard
  5. Wait for the uninstallation process to complete and restart your PC.
  6. Go to the official Valorant website and download the installer file.
    Download Valorant
  7. Run the downloaded file.
  8. Wait for the process to complete and restart your PC.
  9. Launch the game to see if the error persists.

If you still see the problem, there may be something wrong with your GPU, you may want to run a separate diagnostic for the graphics card or take it to a professional for further evaluation.
