Highland Council announces the creation of 17 Facility Management Trainee positions in its Employability Department and Property and Facilities Management Department

Highland Council’s Employability Department and Property and Facilities Management Department are delighted to announce the establishment of 17 Facility Management Trainee positions across the region.

Primarily based in schools, these placements will provide an introduction to the role of janitorial services, normally last six months and form part of the council’s on-the-job learning programme.

The program has provided more than 400 paid placements since 2013.

Internships are open to: young people under 25, uneducated and unemployed; and adults over 25 who have been unemployed for more than 12 months.

Each successful candidate receives:

• Six months of paid work experience at a living wage of £9.90 per hour;

• An employability mentor throughout the internship;

• Coaching;

• Support in job search at the end of the internship.

Councilor Trish Robertson, Chair of the Council’s Economic and Infrastructure Committee, said: “Our Employability Service’s work-based learning program has proven to be a really effective way of supporting unemployed members of our community.

“It focuses on those who lack work experience or have not worked for a while. The program is designed to help people progress into work.”

Councilor Laurie Fraser, Chair of the Housing and Property Committee, said: “I am delighted that our property and facilities management department can offer these paid training opportunities, which will provide real work experience and skills. valuable to support future employability.

Facility opportunities are in Alness, Dingwall, Fortrose, Fort Augustus, Inverness, Nairn, Plockton, Portree Tain and Ullapool.
